Celebrating Kelly O'Lague – A 2025 Woman of Influence!

Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2025

On March 12, 2025, the Portland Business Journal hosted its 22nd annual Women of Influence awards luncheon, honoring 25 exceptional women who have made significant contributions to the region. The event, held at the downtown Hilton, celebrated leaders across various sectors who are driving change and fostering community growth.

Among the distinguished honorees was Kelly O'Lague, President and CEO of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette. With over 25 years of nonprofit experience, Kelly has been instrumental in addressing and solving some of the community’s most challenging issues, including housing stability, early education, disaster and crisis resiliency, and volunteerism. Her leadership reflects a deep commitment to serving systematically excluded and underserved communities.

"I am thankful that our next honoree is where she is doing the work she's doing for children in our community. Here, her work has been meaningful and impactful. As a woman of color, she has defined [United Way's] mission around equity and initiated new partnerships to address the needs of students, immigrants, and the homeless community."

Kali Thorne Ladd, CEO of Children's Institute

In her acceptance speech, Kelly emphasized the importance of community and mutual support, echoing her personal philosophy: "We rise by lifting up others." She further shared her perspective on building a supportive network:

"My advice is to surround yourself with people who lift you up, who make you laugh, and who help you see your strengths and your beauty. But, most importantly, make sure you do that for others."

Under Kelly's guidance, United Way of the Columbia-Willamette has embarked on innovative partnerships to enhance community well-being. Notably, the organization has collaborated with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide free books to children under five in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties. This initiative aims to increase literacy rates and foster a love of reading from an early age.

Kali Thorne Ladd, CEO of Children's Institute, echoed and celebrated this impact when presenting Kelly's award:

"I am thankful that our next honoree is where she is doing the work she's doing for children in our community. Here, her work has been meaningful and impactful,"  Ladd said. "As a woman of color, she has defined [United Way's] mission around equity and initiated new partnerships to address the needs of students, immigrants, and the homeless community."

The Women of Influence event not only celebrated individual achievements but also highlighted the collective impact of women leaders in the Portland area. By recognizing these trailblazers, the Portland Business Journal continues to inspire future generations to lead with vision, dedication, and a heart for community-building.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Kelly O'Lague and all the 2025 Women of Influence honorees. Their unwavering commitment to making a difference enriches our community and sets a powerful example for others to follow.
