MLK Weekend of Service announcement

FOR FOURTEEN YEARS WE’VE BEEN BUILDING DR. KING’S ‘BELOVED COMMUNITY’ RIGHT HERE IN OUR OWN BACKYARD.

Our signature service event has been a community response to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and we are proud of the work and effort our volunteers have put in for the past 14 years. The work we’ve done has helped transform our region into a better place. This year, after close consideration, we have decided to shift how we show up during the weekend that honors Dr. King. Instead of hosting our own volunteer event, we are working with Black-led partners and organizations to support their causes during this important weekend. We will focus our energy on supporting DEI and racial justice resources, events and ways our community can help from home, safe from the current surge in COVID cases.

If you are interested in volunteering, click here to see projects we’re supporting on January 17 and throughout the weekend.

If you are planning a project and wish to share it with our network of volunteers, or know of a project being planned in your community for MLK Jr. Day, fill out this form and we will follow up with the organization and share it with our volunteer network.

Each year, we come together, inspired by the mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to strengthen our community one volunteer project at a time. Our mission at United Way is to invest in our region's kids by giving them and their families the resources they need to thrive. From access to books to food on the table, when important resources are provided, children can succeed and in turn, build a better future for themselves and their community. MLK Jr. Day serves as an inspiring reminder of the impact this work can have.
